The Rhyme’s Library–a Rose Arbor Book

Author Kristy Tate joins us today:

the rhyme's libraryThe Rhyme’s Library, my mystery novel with a heavy dollop of romance, is free this week on Amazon. It’s one of my Rose Arbor books, meaning it’s set in Rose Arbor, a fictional town based on my home town of Arlington, Washington.

When I began The Rhyme’s Library, this was the house in my head. It’s the old Ellis’s house on Becky Avenue, just down the street from my dad’s house. Lindie and Suzie Ellis, twins, were often my babysitters. I find it more than a little coincidental that Lindie died of an aggressive form of Alzheimer at age 57, and my character Charlotte also suffered from a mental illness. I wrote The Rhyme’s Library before Lindie’s death, and I don’t think I knew about Lindie’s illness at the time, but isn’t it funny how real life and fiction often collide? This has happened to me a number of times, and it never fails to take my breath.

You can read about my fiction and reality clash with my novel, Hailey’s Comments here:

How about you? Have you ever had a life meets fiction moment? Please share, we all need as much magic as we can find.

The Rhyme’s Library, a 2013 Kindle Book Review semi-finalist, now free on Amazon

Crazy Aunt Charlotte is missing again. Blair Rhyme, Rose Arbor’s young librarian, doesn’t bother to check Charlotte’s regular haunts — the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars lodge, the Four H-Club, or the bins behind Milton’s Fish shop – because Charlotte is dead. Blair discovered her body amongst the boxes of what-nots and whatevers in the library’s basement. Unfortunately, when she returns to the library with the police Charlotte is missing. Again.

Desperate to prove that she doesn’t share her aunt’s mental illness and that Charlotte really has been murdered, Blair tangles with a former lover, a disturbingly handsome stranger and a wacky cast of Rose Arbor characters.

At first Blair tries to dismiss the skin-pricking sensation of being watched, but as small disturbances grow increasingly threatening, she must confront the enemies, real or imagined, that drove her aunt to madness and death in the Rhyme’s Library.
